In places the sky glowed dark—indigo, gold, green, gray—seeming to sink inward deeply. A pale blue peacock spread jeweled tail feathers across the entire sky, crying softly. The peacock was certainly there. Yet completely invisible. It certainly cried. Yet it was completely inaudible. It was the sun. Solemn- ly shaking its strange round molten body, it rose properly into heaven’s sky. The children stood perfec- tly straight, their palms pressed together toward it. Light poured down in needles and sheaves, clicking and ringing sharply across the entire plain., 2026
