Satchel Lee is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans, photography, film, installation, and performance. Through portraiture and moving image, she explores Black American visual poetics, spirituality, and generational memory, constructing intimate worlds that examine belonging, inheritance, and the emotional architecture of home. Drawing from family histories, oral traditions, domestic spaces, and the visual language of Black American life, Lee considers the ways memory is carried, transformed and reimagined across generations. Her work moves between the observed and the constructed using portraiture, gesture, environment, and narrative to explore the boundaries between lived experience, remembrance, and fiction. Lee presented her first solo exhibition, Where We Find Ourselves, in partnership with the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, and was named one of Art in America's New Talent 2026. She is currently co-creating Mystical Tether, a music-driven performance work that has been supported through artist residencies at New York Theatre Workshop and Williamstown Theatre Festival. Lee received her BFA in Film and Television from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Alongside her studio practice, she works as a director and photographer across commercial and editorial contexts.
